My friend and I usually meet on Monday mornings at a near-by bagel place, however they were having some problems so we decided to visit a close fast food establishment. Knowing my funds were a little tight my friend kindly picked up the tab for our sandwiches. Tray loaded with food and drink I noticed a homeless gentleman nursing a cup of coffee, recognizing him from the food pantry where I volunteer. I knew I couldn’t enjoy a meal when he had nothing so I went back to the cashier and ordered him a pancake plate. I paid for it with the couple of dollars that I had put aside to buy some flowers to cheer up my recently unemployed daughter, I asked the girl not to let him know I had paid for it. It warmed my heart when she placed it in front of him, he looked directly at me and mouthed “Thank you’.
We finished our meal and were leaving when the cashier came to our table and explained she had made a mistake and ordered a pancake platter also and if no one wanted it she would have to throw it away. The gentleman had already left so I said I would take it, she refused my offer to pay for the meal. I felt blessed to be able to possibly bring my daughter a smile, we drove to her house-picked a flower from her bush-placed it atop the tray-and knocked on her door.
She was enjoying her breakfast while telling us how disappointing her job search had been when the phone interrupted…The H.R. person in the company she was very interested in working for wanted to do a quick phone interview! And made an appointment for an in-person interview at the end of the conversation!
So I was blessed by my friend, the man was blessed by me, my daughter was blessed with a job interview and hopefully a position with a good company.
Kindness/Blessings Rule!
